Welcome to the Sea and Society Day 2018 with the theme “The Nature of Excellence, how to make an impact”. We gather researchers and stakeholders in Gothenburg to discuss, provoke and challenge our perceptions of how to become a successful marine university.
Do you also want to broaden your perceptions and networks? Join us on September 24 between 13.00 and 17.00 and for the following buffet dinner at our new location at the Botanical building (in the Gothenburg Botanical Garden).
Deadline for registration is September 20. Register here: https://goo.gl/65E37W
About the day
The need for cooperation and transdisciplinary approaches to handle the challenges of Agenda 2030, is evident and often promoted in policy documents. But it takes time and patience to work with people with a different view of the world and to link pieces of knowledge to get a more holistic view of problems and solutions. Can researchers work transdisciplinary without challenging the aim to be excellent in the disciplinary research? What happens when researchers move from pure knowledge generation to also embrace knowledge application? Which universities are important to collaborate with when focusing on Agenda 2030? Last but not least, how can transdisciplinarity help us to tear down the silos of disciplines, to create an open arena where we can work for a sustainable development of the “Blue economy”?
These questions will be discussed by some key researchers in Gothenburg, our Marine Advisory Board, and the participants. During two Ignite sessions, speakers will share their stories of where they draw inspiration and motivation to address grand challenges like climate change, loss of biodiversity, urbanization, and conflicting resource use and what keeps them committed to international cooperation and their lessons learned.
