Four scientists, Mikael Hellström, Oluf Andersen, Per Fogelstrand and Elisabeth Jerlhag Holm, from the Sahlgrenska Academy were among those honoured when the Swedish Society of Medicine announced its awards for 2014.
Mikael Hellström, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology, was awarded the Tage Sjögren Prize, worth SEK 75,000. The citation: “for his significant contributions within radiology, where he has introduced new technology and conducted scientific research, both experimental and clinical, of the highest quality. This has revolutionised not only the diagnosis and treatment of disease, but also outcome, principally in abdominal organs in both children and adults.”
Oluf Andersen, Professor Emeritus, was awarded the Ingvar Prize for 2014. The citation: “for his work in clinical research of neuroinflammatory demyelinating diseases, principally multiple sclerosis.” The prize is awarded for special contributions within clinical neurology research in memory of Professor David Ingvar.
Per Fogelstrand, research assistant at the Wallenberg Laboratory, was awarded the prize for best scientific project application. The prize is worth SEK 100,000 kronor, and is awarded for the application “Preventing the binding of blood fats into the vessel wall”.
Elisabeth Jerlhag Holm, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, was awarded the prize (SEK 50,000) for translational research for her project application: “The importance of gut-brain hormones for addictive behaviours”.
