Ola Hammarsten, Professor of Clinical Chemistry at the Institute of Biomedicine, has been appointed Adjunct Professor at the School of Medicine and Public Health, part of the University of Newcastle in Australia.
The appointment will help to promote a research collaboration between Ola Hammarsten and Michael Nilsson, who was previously active as a doctor and professor at the Sahlgrenska Academy. Nilsson subsequently moved to become Director of the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), which is coupled to the University of Newcastle.
“We have previously collaborated in research into oxidative stress and antioxidation, and this is a natural step in that collaboration,” says Ola Hammarsten, who will contribute chemical skills and knowledge to the research group that is now being established for the project.
“We have previously shown that the human innate protection against toxins and radicals must be stimulated sometimes, to make sure that we remain healthy and strong. Complete avoidance of radicals is probably not a pathway to good health,” concludes Ola Hammarsten.
