Ali Khatami, a physician and researcher at the Department of Urology, has been appointed now Quality Director at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. In order for the hospital to get from financials to value management and create better conditions to venture new approaches, are priorities for him.
– Sometimes I feel that we become paralyzed by fear of making mistakes, says Ali Khatami.
On May 15, Sahlgrenska University Hospital appointed a new quality director. Ali Khatami received his MD in Gothenburg in 1991. After the internship at NÄL, North Älvsborg County Hospital, he moved to Karlstad to begin his residency and to be specialized in both surgery and urology.
What issues in your field quality and patient feels most urgent to develop in your new role?
– All areas! Working quality conscious is about a cultural journey where we focus on what is most important to the patient and not on the number of implemented measures. My most important tast is to ensure that we move from the financial to the quality and value control. But really, it is not I alone who will make this journey but I will ensure that our employees have the necessary conditions to do it.
Ali Khatami also think that the hospital tends to investigate issues to infinity and get stuck in numbers and statistics. Obviously, a decision must be based on facts, but sometimes our fear of making mistakes leads to paralysis.
