In June, Erik Bülow, a statistician at the Swedish Hip Prosthesis Register and a PhD student at the Department of Orthopedics, and his colleagues were awarded for presenting the best poster at the annual European Federation of National Associations of Orthopedics and Traumatology’s congress, this year held in Vienna. Erik Bülow presented a study recently published inActa Orthopaedica, which deals with hip prosthesis surgery due to osteoarthritis. The study shows that the mortality of these patients is difficult to predict due to comorbidity. This can be partly explained by the fact that patients are relatively healthy compared to age-matched control groups.
