The Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) is a collaboration jointly led by the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), Kenya, and the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), South Africa. The consortium consists of nine universities and five research institutes in Sub-Saharan Africa, and six academic institutions in Europe, Canada and the US. University of Gothenburg is one of them. CARTA was formed to support the development of a vibrant African academy able to lead world-class multidisciplinary research that impacts positively on public and population health. PhD fellows from faculties at the African universities and research centres that are members of CARTA are recruited annually. Central to the training programme for CARTA fellows is a series of residential Joint Advanced Seminars (JAS). Researchers from all over the world facilitate the training programme. As a PhD fellow at University of Gothenburg you have the possibility to participate in JAS 1 or 4 (in Uganda) or JAS 2 (in South Africa). It is an excellent opportunity to learn in a new environment, to network and to gain international experience. The costs for travel, accommodation, and meals will be covered by CARTA trough Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg. You can find more information in the call. Apply before 21 January 2018 if you want to participate in JAS 1 or 4.
