A survey conducted at Sahlgrenska Academy, from which the results are now published by Läkartidningen, shows that a large majority of medical students are interested in research. The response rate was 85.1 percent. 20.4 percent of respondents had previous research experience, and of those who lacked previous experience in research, 80.5 percent were interested. Research was above all seen as a merit and contributing to personal development. The main obstacles against starting to do research were the lack of time, insufficient information and a greater interest in clinical work.
