On Monday April 1, the University of Gothenburg hosted a meeting to discuss animal experiments. Special guests to the meeting included representatives from Sweden’s Animal Rights Alliance, Animal Rights Sweden and the Swedish Fund for Research Without Animal Experiments. The University of Gothenburg’s Network for Critical Animal Studies in the Anthropocene (GU-CAS) also participated in the meeting, along with researchers from several of the university’s faculties. Vice-Chancellor Eva Wiberg, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Göran Landberg and Dean Agneta Holmäng initiated the meeting, and subsequent discussions focused on issues such as the need for animal experiments in research and the application process for permits. Professor Michael Axelsson chaired the meeting. A follow-up meeting is planned for this autumn.
