Recently Sahlgrenska Academy’s Management met with the vice-chancellor and the vice-chancellor’s management team for a discussion. The meeting focused on a follow-up of departments and organizations, underproduction of undergraduate programs and the Faculty’s quality assurance system. The vice-chancellor began by praising the Faculty for its strong research and great commitment. Times Higher Education has released a new ranking based on equality, sustainability and quality in which the University of Gothenburg ranks very high and Sahlgrenska Academy was highlighted as an important contributor to sustainability and Agenda 2030. The Faculty’s funding agreement targets have greatly increased since 2015 now that the Swedish government is attempting to resolve shortages in health care staff by training more people. Sahlgrenska Academy, along with Region Västra Götaland and other universities in the region, noted that the government’s goals cannot be met due to a lack of internships and too few applicants for the training. The vice-chancellor will refer this matter to the Ministry of Education and Research. The vice-chancellor’s management team wanted to know more about the quality assurance system and maintained that the Faculty’s permanent examining board can serve as a good example for other faculties.
